EU Switzerland visits Cardinal Brewery
EU Students visited Feldschlösschen Beverages’ “Brasserie du Cardinal” in Fribourg in early April as part of its industrial visit series. Established in 1788, Feldschlösschen Beverages Ltd. is Switzerland’s leading beverage company and produces 9 different beer brands, including Carlsberg, Feldschlösschen and Cardinal and several mineral waters such as Arkina and Swiss Alpina. The group produces about 2000 bottles a minute or 340,000,000 liters of beer and mineral water every year. The company has 4 different production sites in Switzerland and produces low-alcohol beers as well in order to capitalize on the growing non-alcoholic beverage market. Students were treated to a tour of the Fribourg facilities which revealed to them the company’s interesting history and an explanation of the ancient brewing techniques. Students also enjoyed a sampling of beer at the end of the tour and appreciated visiting such a well-known and storied brewery.
