Lukas Fischer has kept himself busy since graduation. At Machinas, he works on the Hugo Boss and Jack Wolfskin accounts, managing their online stores and sales while developing strategies for mobile and iPad applications. He will take time out of his busy work schedule to come and speak to new students on the Barcelona campus on Friday, October 3rd.

Was there any EU course that has had a particular impact on your career?

Writing & Communication Skills. It’s unbelievable to see how one e-mail or call can change your relationship with a client or your co-worker. I still use the exercises from class in my head.

My co-workers. With over 16 nationalities in one office, it never gets boring.

What are the challenges in your field?

Adapting to a very fast-changing industry.

What makes technology important to the fashion industry?

Originally, the fashion industry was scared to enter e-commerce for fear it would draw sales away from their existing stores. However, many brands have successfully set up their online stores and are connecting these with their physical stores through social media.

How has technology changed these industries?

A decade ago, a Spanish customer had to go to a major city to buy a Hugo Boss suit. Today, customers expect to find a suit online, compare prices, read recommendations and get it delivered for free in just a few days.

What technological changes are you most excited to see?

I am curious to see how the 3D-printing industry will enter fashion. When will I be able to download a blueprint of a suit and print it out with the material I desire an hour before I graduate?!

What advice would you give to companies wanting to improve their online image?

Communication. Having a skilled team that understands a company’s image and knows how to communicate it on different platforms makes a big difference.

Any additional words of wisdom?

Walk up to a classmate you don’t know, grab a coffee with them and give them the chance to surprise you.
