EU Barcelona sports management<\/strong> alumnus, Milos Nenadovic<\/b>, is moving up the ranks. Currently, Nenadovic holds the position of business development executive<\/strong> for Euroleague Basketball \u2013<\/strong> a company that organizes Europe’s top basketball league and tournaments, such as the upcoming 2017 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Final Four in Istanbul. Nenadovic recently stopped by our Barcelona campus for a guest speaker<\/strong> session. He spoke to our bachelor’s students about the realities of the sports industry<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Starting out<\/h3>\n

Nenadovic got his foot in the door with an internship at Euroleague which, due to his hard work, led to a paid position.<\/p>\n

\u201cI got the internship [with Euroleague] through EU. One of my lecturers recommended me… and I went in for an interview and the rest, as they say, is history.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Taking what you’ve learned<\/h3>\n

In his day-to-day at work, Nenadovic often uses what he learned at EU to further his career:<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are many things I learned that I use in my day-to-day life at Euroleague Basketball. Communication is very important<\/strong>. The way I write an email, the way I write a letter, the way I speak to a certain person is different to how I speak to anyone else. And you have to understand how to portray yourself and shape your message to get what you want, at the end of the day. That\u2019s one of the biggest things I learned at EU Business School.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Sports management<\/h3>\n

In sport, looking for a sponsor isn’t just about the money, other factors are involved:<\/p>\n

\u201cFirst, we have to understand the morals and values of that company and find out if they are in line with ours. We have to understand what the company wishes to get out of our sponsorship and what we wish to get out of theirs.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

In addition to this, the management of a sports event isn’t limited to the actual event:<\/p>\n

\u201cFor example, for the upcoming Turkish Airlines Euroleague Final Four Istanbul, a big challenge for us is security. So, we have to make sure, not just the Final Four games are secure, but that all the other events around the city are secure…<\/em> We have to coordinate and make sure that everyone knows what’s happening in the city at the same time. And that all of these people are safe.”
\n<\/em><\/p>\n

Nenadovic’s advice to EU students<\/h3>\n

\u201cWork harder than everyone else, keep pushing out. Build your contact base. You never know when someone\u2019s contact can be of use to you when they can offer you a great opportunity.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
