Their superior intellect? A ruthless ambition to climb the corporate ladder, crushing anyone who gets in the way? Their dashing good looks, expensive haircut\u00a0and irresistable charm? Quite possibly. But not every company wants to employ the Wolf of Wall Street. We spoke to\u00a0guest speakers\u00a0at the\u00a0EU Careers Fair 2017 to get some insight into the qualities recruiters <em>really <\/em>look for in a candidate.<\/p>\n<h2>Aligned values<\/h2>\n<p>Susy Bobenrieth, former vice president of HR Latin America for Nike,\u00a0states that sharing the same values as your potential new employer is crucial. If you&#8217;re applying for a job at an\u00a0environmentally friendly,\u00a0sustainability start-up and one of your hobbies is to race around the countryside\u00a0in your gas-guzzling sports car,\u00a0you&#8217;re probably\u00a0not the one for the job.\u00a0 If,\u00a0however,\u00a0you&#8217;re an ethically-minded eco-warrior, you&#8217;ll fit right in.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-21536\" src=\"https:\/\/www.euruni.edu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/17761054_858549924300467_254854098840449111_o-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Flexibility<\/h2>\n<p>Paula Mariani, UX Director at Schibsted Spain, says the number one attribute she looks for is flexibility.\u00a0There&#8217;s no place for a stubborn, rigid attitude in today&#8217;s fast-paced business environment. Change is\u00a0good and you need to be ready to embrace it. Companies want\u00a0innovative, visionary thinkers, not someone who&#8217;s stuck in the past.\u00a0Having the flexibility to\u00a0go beyond your job description and keep an open mind is very attractive for modern employers.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-21548\" src=\"https:\/\/www.euruni.edu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/17760945_858551887633604_781812902761189586_o-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Honesty<\/h2>\n<p>Paula also says that, if you want to impress, showing your natural self is important. If you talk the talk but don&#8217;t walk the walk,\u00a0employers will know immediately. As your nose grows, your chances of employment will shrink.\u00a0Just be yourself!\u00a0Honesty shines through, and\u00a0showing that you are\u00a0open, earnest and\u00a0aware of\u00a0your strengths and weaknesses shows that you are trustworthy.<\/p>\n<h2>Dynamism<\/h2>\n<p>Stepan Kondratenko, high velocity sales at PTC, wants proactive people with a dynamic curiosity, who are\u00a0starving for knowledge, success and opportunities. If you&#8217;re motivated, energetic and\u00a0inquisitive, you&#8217;ll\u00a0catch plenty of interest.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-21528\" src=\"https:\/\/www.euruni.edu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/17758395_858552894300170_762242662458599163_o-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>The perfect CV<\/h2>\n<p>Is there such a thing? Regardless, you&#8217;ll want to get as close to perfection\u00a0as possible. V\u00edctor Carulla, managing partner at Headway Executive Search, says he knows immediately whether he will contact a\u00a0candidate or not, based on their CV.\u00a0List your relevant skills and experience, previous roles and responsibilites, and your\u00a0education, all in a clear format with flawless spelling and grammar. Your CV should be short (no more than two pages), clear, concise\u00a0and should sell you as the perfect candidate. Tailor it to the company you&#8217;re applying for and keep personal details to a minimum. Listing your interests are fine, but try to keep it brief. Equally,\u00a0using humour is a big draw.
