Countless Connections at the 2017 EU Careers Fair

On March 31, 2017, the EU Careers Services Department hosted our annual EU Careers Fair at the Crowne Plaza Barcelona – Fira Center. The event proved to be an even bigger success than last year, with students arriving early and in large numbers. In fact, several companies have already contacted candidates for follow-up interviews and internship offers. Hotel Arts Barcelona, for example, have offered an internship to five EU students.

In good company

Organized by Head of Business Development Anna Wlodek and Careers Advisor Laurie Le Dentu, EU welcomed a number of companies. These included: Accenture, Babel Profiles, Bloomberg, Criteo, Hotel Arts, Nice People At Work, PageGroup, PTC, TransPerfect, TravelClick and Zurich Insurance. An informal networking session, with coffee and snacks, enabled students and recruiters to meet and connect in a relaxed way.

How to get ahead

The EU Careers Fair aims not only to help connect students and companies but to also provide students with helpful tips on getting their careers on track. Presentations included How to Become a Star Employee and Get the Most Out of Your Job, moderated by Santiago García, founder of Future of Work Institute. The panel was made up of: Alberto Platz, vice president of global talent acquisition & engagement at Swarovski; Susy Bobenrieth, former vice president of HR Latin America at Nike; Thomas Nivol, staffing manager EMEA at Criteo; and finally, Paula Mariani, UX director at Schibsted Spain.

Afterwards, the Gasol Foundation, founded by NBA All-Stars Pau and Marc Gasol to help combat childhood obesity, held a presentation on The Social Side of Sports Management.

Shared insights

In the afternoon, several EU alumni, now successful entrepreneurs, shared their knowledge and EU experiences. Managing partner at Headway Executive Search, Víctor Carulla, began by giving insights from Inside the Selection Process. The event then came to a close with a presentation by three EU alumni who shared their entrepreneurial knowhow. Moderator Pau Fernández, head of corporate development at Itnig, together with speakers Joad López, CEO & co-founder of eyescream and friends and Ricardo Gómez provided students with an in-depth look at The Lean Startup Methodology.
