The summer holidays during and after high school are the most exciting time of the year for many students. Classes have finished and your exams are done, which means you can put your books away and head down to the beach with your friends. The sun is out, and the days seem to last forever. So what will you do with them—get out and enjoy the good weather, go traveling, try something new for the first time?

At EU Business School’s International Summer School in Barcelona, you can do all of the above while also learning valuable business skills from experienced professionals. This annual, three-week course is aimed at high school students aged 16-18 interested or considering studying for a degree in business.

Classes, which are designed to teach students the fundamentals of key business disciplines and give them an insight into working in an international business environment, take place in the morning. In the afternoon, however, it’s time to go out and enjoy the city!

So, if you’re wondering, why would I want to spend my summer back in school?, keep reading. We’ve come up with five brilliant reasons to attend International Summer School in Barcelona.

1. Learn from the best in the business.

Our summer school classes are all taught by EU Barcelona faculty members, who, in addition to being world-class instructors, are all global business leaders in their sectors. Furthermore, the classes you’ll be taking are real undergraduate classes. Choose from modules including business communication, innovation & entrepreneurship, and cross-cultural business issues & negotiation.

All classes in the program are taught in English in a unique, interactive style. We think it’s important students learn from their peers as well as their professors, so group discussions and debates are heavily encouraged.

2. Get a feel for university life, to see if it’s really for you.

When you’re choosing a major or degree course, you’re not just deciding what you’re going to study for the next three years: Your choice of subject and how well you get on with it will also impact your future career. If you want to be sure about your decision to study business at university, attending our International Summer School in Barcelona can help!

Not only does it let you sample classes from our undergraduate program, but you’ll also be housed in real student residences, so you can find out exactly what it’s like to live with your classmates.

3. Strengthen your university application.

Completing an International Summer School program will look great on your university application. It will show the admissions board you are independent, motivated, and keen to learn—their ideal student, in other words. So, if you do end up taking part in one of our courses, be sure to highlight the experience somewhere in your personal statement.

4. Experience everything Barcelona and the surrounding region of Catalonia have to offer.

The International Summer School in Barcelona is not all about work. We want you to immerse yourself in the culture, and especially the cuisine, of our wonderful city. The Catalan region in Spain is well known for its fabulous flavors, so we always start the course by taking that year’s cohort out to dinner at a local restaurant, Dos Torres.

Then, over the following three weeks, students have the opportunity to visit businesses and cultural attractions in the area, plus kick back and relax on the beautiful, sandy beaches nearby.

Highlights from the last few years include tapas tours, wine tastings, catamaran cruises, and trips to Camp Nou (home of FC Barcelona), the Simón Coll Chocolate Factory, Casa Bacardi, and the nearby cities of Stiges and Girona. Game of Thrones fans will surely recognize the historic cathedral in Girona as the Great Sept of Baelor from the TV show!

5. Make friends from all over the world.

Our International Summer School is open to high school students from all over the world. Every year, we welcome young adults from over 10 countries to Barcelona, so a big part of the experience is getting to know people from different backgrounds and cultures. In fact, we’ve been told it’s one of the best parts about attending the course by previous students.

“Although I’ve traveled quite a lot, this is my first time in Europe. It is kind of a unique experience. I’ve met different people from different cultures, which has given me a different perspective.”

“I’ve had the opportunity to meet people from so many different places, from Brazil, Singapore, Belize… all of them have been great. We are all around the same age, and we are finding a purpose in life. That’s what makes us feel so connected.”

So, you can see, it truly is an international experience. By studying at the International Summer School in Barcelona, you will gain new insights and ideas, both in and out of the classroom, and you’ll leave with a network of new friends whose couches you can crash on when you go traveling next summer!
