As students of international business, a lot of us come from very diverse multicultural education systems, which have helped shaped us into the students we are today. The fact that, in our classes, we have a representation from most countries in the world is amazing! But what are some of the benefits of an international education? How will international education contribute to our future careers in business? Here are some of the benefits we gain when moving country and experiencing all that international education has to offer.
1. Building a global network day by day
At EU Business School, we get to work with students from Taiwan, Russia, Italy… you name it! This is not only an chance to make friends from all around the world but also an opportunity to really learn about the diversity of the world we live in. You can ask your classmate about the local business and government in their own country; you can’t get a more direct source than that. Use this opportunity to really get to know your classmates and where they come from.
2. Being open/minded becomes easy
Another benefit of an international education is that we learn to be very open-minded individuals, which is a very crucial mindset to have in our global world and for our future careers. Having the ability to collaborate with a group of people from all around the world is a skill for life and you can easily bring it up at your next interview. Use this mindset when you work with international teams or start your own company, it will be a very useful tool whenever you need to adapt to a new environment.
3. We are risk takers from the get-go!
One of the desired abilities that often comes up in business is being a risk taker, someone who has the courage to take on challenges. Now, most of us have moved to university from another country or have even done this multiple times. Congratulations! You are officially in the risk takers club. Taking the risk to move to a different country takes a lot of courage and is a great way to start, being business students, we will need this skill A LOT.
Being away from home is not always easy, we don’t have the local community that we are used to. But the benefits we gain from this experience stay with us for our whole life and will make us stand out in the very international job market. Let’s use our international education to find even more opportunities, when it comes to applying for jobs, opening up companies or contribution to international projects.
